REVIEW: Neeson, Manville are extraordinary in Ordinary Love

This look at the way a middle-aged married couple handles the wife’s cancer diagnosis doesn’t have a single ordinary thing about it.

Co-directors Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D’Sa have constructed a resonant, heart-wrenching piece of film here.

Liam Neeson and Leslie Manville, both Oscar nominees, give their all to this disquieting feature. They layer Owen McCafferty’s script and create larger-than-life emotions.

It’s one of the most difficult, romantic films I’ve seen in the last six months, and the leads spar back and forth, both supporting and feeding off each other endlessly.

From happy partners to the tensions that boil underneath, we see the good and the ugly from the two in a film that’s most powerful when it’s not saying anything at all.
